Problem 1: Google wastes time.
If Google discovers thousands of made-up addresses, it may spend time checking them. That means less attention for the pages you actually want people to find. New pages can take longer to be discovered or indexed.
Problem 2: Fake URLs trigger redirects you never set up.
Bots create made-up addresses that look like pages on your website. Google can discover those addresses and visit them. If WordPress, a plugin or your server redirects one with a 301 response, Google sees an address that has moved, even though you never created that redirect. Google may exclude the fake URL and check its destination instead. If that redirect also affects one of your real pages, you can lose search visibility and traffic. All those fake addresses also take Google's attention away from discovering your new pages.
